Sub Frame Done

Well finally after lots of beer, blood and terrorizing of forums the sub frame is done. This was defiantly a fun project especially lugging around heavy trailing arms to wedge them into the sub frame.

Trailing Arms

And here is what the tool looks like to install the bushings.

Here you can see the bushing do not fit because I was stupid and
left the sleeve in the bushing

Removing the old bushings using the Home Depot tool

Well after fighting with the subframe bushings I moved on to the trailing arms.
To pull the trailing arm bushings out i made a simple tool that cost me five bucks at home depot, consisting of a threaded rod a couple of nuts and washers.
Also as a tip if you ever tackle this job make sure to remove the metal sleeve from the bushing first as it makes the job much easier. I first tried it with the sleeve and the bushing started to deform instead of going in.

Fun Day With Bushings

This worked out well, all I need now is some fresh air and to use a hack saw to
cut through the left over sleeve and pry it out

Second try is much more fun using a torch to burn the bushing out

First idea failed horribly, tried using a hole saw to cut the bushing out.

Well as I said yesterday removing subframe bushings sucked. But I am almost done after 2 hours of agonising pain and a few beers.

The Pain of the Bushings

Well I finally dropped the subframe which was a lot of fun and I am thankful to Aaron fro coming by and helping me out with this project.
Now comes my favorite part of attempting to remove the old bushings. The way I see it there are only two options to get this done.
1) Is to sit here and bang them with a sludge hammer like a cave men for the next couple of hours.
2) Or my favorite method of using the torch to either heat up or burn the bushings out.

So stand by for some photos of bushing removal or me on fire.

The Start of the Big Project

And here is the main tool

And here are a few photos of the work space.

This whole week I spent taking the rear end apart which went smoothly besides the e-brake set up exploding in my face and having to drill out random nuts and finding odd surprises that have gotten caught in the under carriage over the years.
Will have some photos soon....

Finally Home

Here is what my 1989 325i looked like the day I got her home.
The car is in decent condition but it it does need a lot of works.
A list of things that are wrong or need to be done:
Driver seat broken on one side
Suspension is completely shot
Tires are bold and wheels do not match
Oil leak that must be located
Shifter can do full 360 circles in gear
